About this Conference

URBAN KNOWLEDGE NET (UKN)

In addition to the collaboration of other higher education institutions and research centers from different countries, the collaborative network URBAN KNOWLEDGE NET (UKN) is made up of permanent members from one university in Germany (Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences/FUAS), three in Brazil (PUCPR, Universidade Federal do ABC/UFABC and Universidade de Vila Velha/UVV), one in Colombia (Universidad Piloto de Colombia/UPC ), one from Chile (Universidaddel Bío-Bío/UBB) and two from Mexico (Colégio Mexiquense/CM and Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México/UAEMex). Since 2010, formal meetings of the network have been held, recently interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic and whose resumption will be made possible with the 11th Meeting / 1st International Seminar.

Thematic Groups

This edition of the event has three thematic axes, subdivided into guiding subthemes, to which interested parties can submit papers according to their areas of interest.

ET01. Challenges for urban and regional planning

This axis seeks to encourage debate on the following guiding subthemes:


. Metropolitan and multi-territorial planning and management;
. Urban and regional centralities and counter-centralities;
. Urbanization and metropolization processes in the Global South;
. Landscape, landscapes: morphologies and spatial dynamics of the contemporary city;
. Georepresentations of urbanization processes and socio-spatial segregation;
. Urban permanences and impermanences: the city and history;
. Security, surveillance and control in public spaces;
. Urban technopolitics: networks, technologies and territorialities;
. Other perspectives on urban and regional planning

ET02. Innovation in public policies

This axis seeks to encourage debate on the following guiding subthemes:


. Governance and participatory planning;
. Social equity and inclusion;
. Urban environmental policies;
. Urban mobility;
. Affordable housing initiatives;
. Preservation of cultural heritage;
. Smart cities;
. Data-based decision making;
. Other views on public policies.

ET03. Management and technologies aimed at adapting and mitigating the effects of global climate change

This axis seeks to encourage debate on the following guiding subthemes


. Social innovation;
. Collaborative methodologies;
. Nature-based services;
. Innovative environmental education;
. Environmental monitoring;
. Other aspects of environmental innovations and technologies.







WORKSHOP-VISIT

With the aim of celebrating the cities, especially Curitiba as the venue for the event, a workshop visit will be carried out in a circuit through reference spaces in urban planning, with an initial institutional presentation.

Submission of Papers

The submission of each paper must be made to one of the three THEMATIC GROUPS (see guiding subthemes in THEMATIC GROUP) and entirely through the SISGEENCO Platform click here.

Without restriction on the number of papers submitted per author, texts may be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English. In any of these options, summaries must be prepared in all three languages.

With no limit on the number of authors, papers may be proposed by professors, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Its analysis will be carried out by the Scientific Assessment Committee, made up of experts in the guiding subtopics of each of the thematic groups, who will select the paper based on their formal suitability, relevance and contribution to the area of knowledge.

As the evaluation is blind, two files of each paper must be sent, prepared according to TEMPLATES: one with specification of the authors and possible acknowledgments, and another without this information, that is, without any type of authorship identification.

The presentation of articles in the THEMATIC SESSIONS (see PROGRAMMING) and in the PROCEEDINGS is subject to registration and payment of event fees by at least one of the authors of the accepted paper.

Types of acceptance of a paper:
1 – Accepted for presentation in thematic sessions and publication in conference proceedings
2 – Accepted for publication in the electronic conference proceedings
